I don't know where it's likely to go better.

How much does Saudi Arabia hate women? So much so that 15 girls died in a school fire in Mecca in 2002, after “morality police” barred them from fleeing the burning building — and kept firefighters from rescuing them — because the girls were not wearing headscarves and cloaks required in public. And nothing happened. No one was put on trial. Parents were silenced.

from Mona Eltahawy’s Why Do They Hate Us?

NOTE: Everyone who reads this article needs to subsequently watch this interview because there are so many complexities to the plight of the Arab or Muslim women that no one has the time to address in a short article. Also these pictures are an inaccurate representation of Mona’s message, and simply perpetuating sensationalized media, not of good reporting. DO NOTjust read this article with preconceived notions from these photos and DO NOT get caught up in presentation and miss the point. What matters is Mona’s message. Though controversial, it brings up good points and cultural relativity only goes so far.
I am also sick of people saying life is more dangerous for women in America than women in the Middle East. No one is a statistic. For some women, America might be more dangerous, for others, the Middle East. And there are so many for whom life is in an unthinkable peril who don’t even come close to these two regions. So it is unfair to compare the two situations.
The “war on women” that we talk about in the United States is not comparable to the “war on women” in the Muslim-majority nations — not because one side is worse or better, but because they are altogether different situations. Drawing parallels is one thing, but putting these two situations on the same level is unacceptable. For all those who talk about intersectionality, it’s important to understand the differences between these two very narrowly defined and very different people.

Preach, girl.

It’s true, I am Chinese and I was born this way.
At a young age I began to notice this difference. I was attracted to neither boys nor girls. In middle school, I liked math, and in college, I did my homework all night long.
Being Chinese is not a choice, it is genetic. There are risks to being Chinese because society cannot accept the union between a human and a textbook. I have Chinese friends who didn’t need sex because they could foreplay instruments and get screwed by O Chem instead. Now, they don’t have a social life and is shunned by others.
But fear not, life will get better. I grew up as a Chinese and I am proud of it (just look at my user name). There is the LGBTC (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Chinese) community to help you be comfortable with your Chinese orientation. 1,338,299,512 people came out as Chinese. You are not alone.

I am the 20%
Oh god, my boyfriend’s going to be so disappointed.

in which I give up

Him: I just ate half a banana and the jelly on my pb&j counts as strawberries. I'm so healthy!
Me: ...you are SUCH a dude.
Him: Uh, yeah, you just noticed that?
Me: No but seriously... everything about that text screams, I'm a teenage boy and I still don't know how to fend for myself =P
Him: Ouch! I made my lunch all by myself!
Me: And now that screams, teenage boy who THINKS he can fend for himself.
Him: I still am nineTEEN and I CAN fend for myself.
Me: Still a teenage boy who thinks jelly is healthy!
Him: It's just mashed up strawberries! It still has all the goodiness in it!
Me: Unless it's homemade, it's got all sorts of preservatives in it
Him: Ruin all the fun :(
Me: I'm just messing with you, darling. Congratulations on not scarfing down a bag of chips or a bowl of Lucky Charms like some teenage boys I know!
Him: I may have had chips too...
Me: And you said you were healthy! You lied to me!!! =[
Him: Chips are healthy! They're just potatoes! Which are vegetables.
